Our Manifesto
Do you believe everything the media tells you? Our art uses theatre as a means to find the truth behind the headlines. Breaking stories, finding fact and fiction. By unlocking the hidden complexities within the news we reduce the bias opinion and voice two sides to the argument. Using movement and different types of media we aim to prevent society from society from focusing on the negatives and fixating on one belief.
Our theatre company aims to give a voice to the voiceless. Immigration has been an issue in the eyes of the news and society since the late 1960’s. We aim to break the exterior of this view and delve into the minds of the victims of the slander. Nick Robinson, the BBC’s political editor, has criticised the corporation for making a “terrible mistake” over its coverage of immigration, admitting it censored concerns amid fear they could trigger racism. This fear came as we find that society is very easily influenced by social media.
- ¾ of the population are in favour of reducing the migrants coming in to Britain.
- 88% of people believe that immigrants haven’t changed their society for the better
- 71% believe that there are too many immigrants in the UK
- 94% agreed Britain is ‘full up’
Nevertheless, how have these views come to be? We are a free country and pride ourselves on equality, yet we marginalise people based on ethnicity. Immigration is a natural part of an open society. Many immigrants have made and continue to make a valuable contribution to the UK. By demonstrating a piece of theatre through the eyes of the ostracised we can gain an insight in to their thoughts and feeling. We also aim to show the effect the portrayal of the immigrants has on their lives. We forget that like us, the immigrants are real people, with real feelings. It’s time to start treating them like citizens and friends rather than immigrants and foes.
